Ashlee Simpson & Pete Wentz
Every little girl dreams of having a fairy tale wedding complete with a gorgeous dress, her very own prince charming, and maybe even a ride in a converted pumpkin carriage. Well, for one happy bride, this dream actually became a reality (minus the pumpkin carriage). On May 17, 2008 Ashlee Simpson and her now-husband Pete Wentz, bassist for the band Fall Out Boy, went down the rabbit hole with their “Alice in Wonderland” themed reception held at her parent’s house in the Los Angeles area.
Simpson, 23, and Wentz, 28, tied the knot in the backyard of her parent’s home in Encino, California in front of 150 close family and friends. The non-denominational ceremony was performed by her father, Joe Simpson, who reportedly became very emotional when reminiscing about his daughter’s life. The guest list included some well-known celebrities such as Ashlee’s sister, the famous Jessica Simpson, who was maid of honor, Tony Romo, Joel Madden and Nichole Richie, just to name a few. Ashlee wore a traditional wedding dress by Monique Lhuillier and jewelry by Neil Lane while her hubby sported a Diorre Homme tuxedo. Her bridesmaids wore black Vera Wang gowns and Hemingway, Wentz’s English bulldog, took the role of the ring bearer.
Not many details have been released, the couple wanted to keep things quiet; there are few things that were said (or leaked out). The paparazzi started swarming the Simpson residence before 3 p.m. on the big day and aerial photos were released later that week showing large white party tents just inside the guarded gates. Apparently, white vans with dark windows were going in and out of the gates delivering both guests and what appeared to be food (one of the trucks was marked as belonging to Wolfgang Puck, who supposedly catered the event). The white vans served as a shuttle for the guests after the drivers of a few expensive cars were told to park elsewhere and the buses would bring them in the gates. All in attendance were required to leave cell phones and cameras at the door.
After the traditional ceremony, Ashlee’s punk-rock chick persona certainly came out with the decorations for the reception. According to Usmagazine.com, the guests were told to wear cocktail attire without being overdressed and were asked by the bride and groom “to dress in dark colors.” Ashlee followed suit by changing into a black cocktail dress for the reception. The white tents were decked out with black rugs, white couches with red pillows, and black chandeliers and the bouquets and table arrangements consisted of red roses, black callas lilies, and black orchids. The over-the-top wedding cake was adorned with a top hat, a tea pot, a pot of flowers and a stop watch to stick with the “Alice in Wonderland” theme, as well as the party favors. Each guest received a little red box with a cookie inside that read “Eat Me.” Surprisingly, there was no live music! Simpson and Wentz are both musicians.....mmmm!
