Wedding Ceremony published April 2, 2010
With weddings being one of the most joyous occasions in the life of most people, a beautiful ceremony is the most suitable way to begin the day. Amongst the excitement of all the celebrations, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that this is the most important part of the day: The moment when the couple's nearest and dearest witness them exchanging their vows.
When arranging the wedding ceremony, it is important to choose a format that reflects your beliefs and values as a couple. For some, a traditional ceremony is perfect for them, whereas others may prefer something more personalized. This doesn’t mean to say personal touches cannot be incorporated into a traditional ceremony in unique and creative ways. In doing so, a special meaning is given to the day.
Eccentric touches filled the red and black themed wedding of actress and dancer Carmen Electra to Dave Navarro, from guests being greeted by masked doormen to a Garden of Eden environment complete with waterfalls and a python! Along with this more eclectic style, there were also traditionally touching moments.
At the marriage of Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, personalized touches featured in the ceremony. The bridal march was to a song called "Heather", written by the Groom especially for his bride. Actress Tori Spelling and writer/actor Charlie Shanian had a 1920's themed wedding, at which they exchanged self written vows and walked down the aisle to their chosen tune, "I Got you Babe".
Having decided on the type of ceremony that best suits you as a couple, wedding vows are the next item on the agenda. More couples are choosing to write their own vows, as they feel they can better express their emotions and feelings, and add that unique touch to the ceremony. Celebrity weddings such as Julia Roberts & Danny Moder, and Matt LeBlanc & Melissa McKnight featured vows written by themselves.
The location of your wedding ceremony is another consideration. Since the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in a 15th century castle in the small town of Bracciano near Rome, Italy has become a popular destination. Their wedding highlighted the options of getting married in historic places and beautiful surroundings.
Outdoor wedding ceremonies are increasingly popular, providing a romantic setting in a beautiful garden. Also on the increase is the demand to find more unusual locations to hold the wedding ceremony. Zoos, aquariums, film studios, castles and barns are just a selection to the alternatives to a church wedding.
Beach weddings are a popular choice for celebrities, and range from a quiet, intimate ceremony to a Hollywood style event. Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner had a small secret wedding ceremony with one confirmed guest. The couple relaxed in an oceanfront house for their celebration. On the other hand, Tiger Woods rented 200 rooms at a nearby resort for his guests when he married Elin Nordegren in a hilltop ceremony, under a pagoda decorated with 500 crimson roses.
Themed weddings are a modern wedding trend, allowing couple's to show their flair and creativity in the planning and executing of their special day. This type of wedding can help to create a more relaxed atmosphere. A growing trend is for fairy tale and Disney themes, aimed at fun and romance. It is even possible to get married in a replica Disney character gown! But this may not be your taste.
A magical wedding was created by actor and actress Peter Hermann and Mariska Hargitay, with an enchanted forest theme featuring a swan pond surrounded by rose petals.
Victoria and David Beckham asked their guests to dress in either black or white, creating an elegant look to their ceremony, and doves were released to celebrate the romance of the wedding, with fireworks lighting the sky later in the evening.
As well as the exchanging of wedding vows, additional rituals may be included during the ceremony. Lighting a unity candle is a beautiful way to end the ceremony.
Today's weddings are planned to be a true reflection of the bride and groom’s personal tastes, along with incorporating more traditional elements. The choice is endless, and anything goes.
